Old AMD CPU users receive bad news

AMD abandons users of old chips, does not patch dangerous Sinkclose security hole.

AMD has started releasing patches for some processors affected by the newly discovered Sinkclose security vulnerability, however, older chips like Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 and Threadripper 1000, 2000 will not receive any updates.

Older AMD CPU users will not receive the Sinkclose vulnerability patch.

Older AMD CPU users will not receive the Sinkclose vulnerability patch.

The reason given by AMD is that these products are out of the software support window. This means that millions of users of these old chip lines will face the risk of attacks exploiting the Sinkclose vulnerability.

While AMD says Sinkclose is primarily a threat to large organizations like governments, researchers warn that if exploited, the vulnerability could have serious consequences, allowing hackers to run malicious code in the chip's protected system management mode.

AMD's failure to patch older chips has caused controversy in the user community. Many people believe that this is an irresponsible action by AMD, especially when the Sinkclose vulnerability can cause serious consequences.

Currently, users of older AMD chips are advised to upgrade to newer hardware versions to be protected from the Sinkclose vulnerability.
