5 exciting features to look forward to in iOS 18.2

iOS 18.2 promises to bring many exciting new features never announced in beta versions, expected to launch later this year.

Apple has rolled out a lot of new features for iOS 18 , but a large portion of them are not in the current betas of both iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1. Since most of the features are promised to launch "later this year," we should expect them in iOS 18.2, assuming there are no delays.

iOS 18.2, due out later this year. Any features that weren’t in iOS 18 and 18.1 will likely make it to this version, as it’ll be the last chance to release it in 2024. Of course, there’s always the chance that Apple will add some major features in a later beta of 18.1, but that’s unlikely to happen.

1. ChatGPT support in Siri

During Apple’s August earnings call, CEO Tim Cook commented on the phased rollout of Apple Intelligence features. When talking about the rollout, he mentioned that the ChatGPT integration would happen later this year.

Apple is also said to be investing in OpenAI's next round of funding, showing its confidence in the company's AI technology.

2. Genmoji

We saw Genmoji at WWDC back in June, but the feature hasn’t been released in any iOS 18 betas since its announcement. While there hasn’t been any specific leaks about when we’ll see it released, it’s likely to debut in iOS 18 later this year.

There have also been some signs of Genmoji in recent betas of iOS 18.0 and 18.1, with parts of the Genmoji interface occasionally appearing for some users over time. The fact that it hasn’t been completely removed from the betas suggests that users may get to experience the feature sooner than the new Siri, which is expected to debut in iOS 18.4 next spring.

View by group : Emails from the same sender will be grouped by the application, helping users easily track email chains.

Highlight unread emails : Unread emails will be displayed prominently at the top of each category, helping users not miss important emails.

Smart Reply : The “Smart Reply” feature powered by Apple Intelligence will suggest responses based on email content, helping users reply to emails faster.

Writing Tools : The “Writing Tools” feature helps users compose more professional emails by suggesting different expressions, checking spelling and grammar errors.

Email summary : This feature provides a brief summary of email content right in the inbox, helping users grasp important information without opening the email.

Detailed summary : When a user opens an email, this feature will provide a more detailed summary of the content contained in the email.

4. Default browser selection screen in EU

Earlier this year, Apple introduced a new screen to choose a default browser in the EU, but starting later this year, Apple will be forced to show that choice screen more frequently.

If you use Safari, you'll be prompted to see this browser selection screen when you update to iOS 18. You'll also be forced to check this setting once a year or when setting up a new iPhone. Unlike most iOS settings, this setting won't persist across backups.
